Whether you’re a casual wine drinker or a seasoned sommelier, a wine focused trip in Cyprus is definitely worth considering in September for the exciting harvest season.

Cyprus wine produce derived from local grapes to well-known global selections such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. One of the many reason for its success, is the array of different wine regions across the island, each with their own climate, soils and varieties of grapes.

With 6,000 years of wine producing history, it is no surprise that Cyprus wines received top accolades at Decanter World Wine Awards in the recent years – one of Europe’s largest and most respected wine awards.

In Paphos, several wall mosaics and pots in the city indicate the significant role wine had during the Roman period.

Chrysorrogiatissa (Monastery)
Located in Panayia village at an altitude of around 800 metres and was founded by the monk Ignatius in the 12th century. Each year on August 15, an impressive religious ceremony and celebration takes place. The old winery found on the inside of the monastery, produces, from its own vineyards, some of the best vintage wines of Cyprus.
 
Shoufas Winery
Shoufas winery is situated in the lovely village of Kilinia, an unpopulated countryside surrounded by vineyards east of the Troodos Mountain, a mere twenty-five-minute drive from Paphos. Kilinia boasts a rich history of wine produce. The area is suitable for the indigenous grape varieties, Xinisteri, the result of a crispy white wine with robust fruit aromas of citrus and banana, and Maratheftiko, a ruby full-bodied red wine with intense aromas of cherries, vanilla, blackberries and exotic spices.

Vasilikon Winery
Nestled in the foothills of the Kathikas, Vasilikon boats 16 hectares of vineyards with 350,000 bottles produced annually. This Winery is one of the first local wineries of Cyprus, established in 1993 by the brothers Heracles, Georgios and Giannis. Its successful operation is based on the excellent quality grapes of Kathikas and the Akamas Laona areas of Pafos, which are mainly picked from the family’s vineyards Kyriakides.

Fikardos Winery
Fikardos Winery is one of the first privately owned wineries in Cyprus. It was established by Mr Theodoros Fikardos in 1990 and today its wines are considered among the finest in Cyprus. Produce is harvested from the family owned vineyards in Pano Arodes and Choulou village, established with the predominant aim to cultivate Cypriot varieties.

Kamanterena Winery
Kamanterena Winery, situated in the hills of Stroumbi village boasts one of the most complete and modern wineries in the world, equipped with machinery of the latest technology producing excellent quality wines, as well as Paphos Regional Wines. In 2016, SODAP- Kamanterena Winery won 25 awards in International Competitions such as, the Decanter Wine Awards, the International Wine & Spirits Competition the International Thessaloniki Wine and Spirits Competition the AWC Vienna International Wine Challenge and special Competitions such as the Chardonnay du Monde, and the Rose du Monde, held in France.

Vouni Panayia Winery
Generation after generation, the Kyriakides family vineyards at Vouni Panayia are cultivated with passion, great care and respect to the exceptional viticulture character of the area. Apart from producing wine, the winery offers the opportunity to discover the world of Cyprus wine and viticulture; An educational experience showcasing the process from planting vines to bottling, a traditional museum and a lovely tasting room. There is also a restaurant where you can enjoy the aromas and flavors of our wines whilst dining. The winery is open to all wine lovers all year round.

Makkas Winery
The Makkas Winery is located in the fertile soil of Statos, St. Photios region in the hilly outskirts of Paphos, at an altitude of 900-1150 meters. Makkas boasts its location as terrain and climatic factors are of crucial significance for the quality of grapes and wine.  

Kolios Winery
Kolios Winery, previously Amforeas Winery is located in Statos-Ayios Fotios village in Paphos. The winery produces nearly 400 000 bottles annually which makes the winery one of the largest on the island. The family vineyards have been planted by the Kilios family on rustic slopes producing quality and most exquisite renowned Cyprus wines.
